This is the true spirit of our kids when we are around to support them.
Here's hoping we reach many of our goals in 2009.......
You too can help us reach our goals by signing up as a regular monthly subscriber of the Children At Risk Foundation's efforts for positive social change.

The home ec class I teach on Mondays is for girls who are homeschooled and are in K-3rd grade.
In this class we talked about Las Posadas and sampled treats that were made in Mexico.
(This class should have been taught on December 15th, but had a pipe exploded in the wall and flooded part of the house. The other part of the treat would have been chicken enchiladas with salsa verde.)
Anyway...the girls tasted a peach nectar drink (mixed reaction), a strawberry beverage (kind of like Kool-Aid, but you add sugar to taste...all the girls liked that drink), and lemon-lime cookies (all but one girl liked them).
Read "The Night of Las Posadas" by Tomie DePaola, and distributed handouts about Las Posadas, the lyrics to the song that is sung during Las Posadas, and a pattern for making a pinata.

365 Days: 35/365 (January 5, 2009): I was hired to facilitate courses for Axia College of University of Phoenix in March 2007 and, after a rigorous training period, started teaching my very first two classes in June 2007: COM/120, Effective Persuasive Writing. Since those first two sections I have facilitated 32 sections in all -- roughly 500 students!
This photo, shot with my trusty Canon PowerShot A410, combines a concept I've used previously in which I numerically represent "365" (or the date on which I took the photo) with another image that represents a facet of my life: in this case one of my online classes at Axia (COM/140, Contemporary Business Communication, for those who might be curious).
I removed the color from the calculator in the foreground and modified it with the Accented Edges feature in Photoshop CS because I wanted to de-emphasize the calculator while in some way featuring the bright colors of the online classroom. I really like the use of perspective in this shot too -- but to be honest, I had to hold the calculator at that odd angle so the solar cells could still pick up enough light from my lamp to work while displaying the "365" I entered.
